A number of events followed the results of the international forum "Transforming Knowledge for Africa's Future" in order to implement UNESCO's "Africa Priority" program
During the webinar "Campus Africa – Strengthening higher education in Africa", the speakers together with the conference participants discussed the main directions for the dynamic and effective development of higher education in Africa: scientific and innovative opportunities, doctoral studies and higher education. They noted two key factors contributing to the development of the higher education system, including ensuring the quality and recognition of qualifications, as well as statistical data and information in the field of higher education.
During the webinar on "Cultural Heritage Preservation and Capacity Development", the conference participants discussed how UNESCO chairs can contribute to enhancing the role of Africa's cultural heritage for sustainable development; how UNESCO chairs located on the continent can assist local leadership in protecting and preserving Africa's World Heritage Sites; combating illicit trafficking, and improving awareness of society about the restitution of cultural property.
The webinar "Strengthening the role of open science and capacity building in the field of fundamental and applied sciences to promote research, innovation and technology" focused on how UNESCO chairs can enhance the role of science and research to address global challenges and accelerate progress towards achieving the goals set out in the African Union's 2063 Agenda and the SDGs. It was noted that the remaining gaps in scientific potential, access to knowledge and technology refrain the resolution of fundamental issues related to health and food security.
Online events dedicated to oceanology, climate change resilience, and rational water use in African countries have become final in a number of webinars. The speakers' presentations were aimed at using science and innovation to solve the problem of climate change resilience and sustainable management of water resources, both marine and inland.
According to the African Union's Agenda for the Period up to 2063; the Integrated Strategy for Africa's Development (Strategy 2050 AIM), as well as the Blue Economy Strategy, the speakers emphasized the need to take direct and urgent measures to increase climate change adaptability; highlighted projects led by African countries and best practices., demonstrated cooperation in the field of ocean and water resources management; encouraged the strengthening of coherence and interaction between existing initiatives in this area, among which the "Marine spatial planning", "Sustainable ocean development", "Integrated water resources management" projects can be highlighted.
The moderators of the forum noted that these events are an important part of the implementation of 5 flagship programs related to Africa, a priority of UNESCO programs.
